Reddit Launches Video Comments for All Users
www.netinfluencer.com: Reddit has
introduced video in comments, making the feature available to all users across
its platform as of June 11.
The update allows users to record or upload
video replies within the comment box, alongside the existing options of images,
GIFs, and text. The feature is available in eligible communities, which Reddit
defines as suitable-for-work (SFW) and public. A video icon will appear in the
comment box on all platforms in communities where the feature is active.
“We are continually evolving Reddit to deliver
a more immersive and authentic human experience,” Chief Product Officer Maria
Angelidou-Smith said in an announcement. “The ability to reply with video gives users
more creative ways to engage in communities they love.”
How the Feature Works
Videos do not autoplay and respect users’
existing audio settings. All video comments pass through Reddit’s safety
systems before appearing publicly. Users can also post video replies to their
own profiles.
Reddit conducted an alpha test of the feature
ahead of the broader rollout. During that period, users tested video replies in
select communities, including an AMA hosted by Mel C in r/popculturechat and a
handwriting showcase thread in r/fountainpens.
Reddit describes the format as suited for use
cases such as responding to cooking threads, demonstrating techniques, or
participating in celebrity AMAs with video replies.
